Most businesses and collection agencies prefer to hire collections agents who have at least a high school diploma. Also, many companies like to hire college students to work-part time as collections agents while still in school.

Many job-seekers take a collections agent training course. They must become familiar with local and provincial regulations governing collection procedures and learn how to negotiate with debtors. This is not only something to add to their resume but many employers’ require it before hiring a collections agent.
